About

AMS Community Site

The AMS Community Site is a networking and informational space created and maintained exclusively for members of the American Musicological Society (AMS). If you are not a current member, and would like to access the site, please visit the Society’s website to join or renew your AMS membership.

Designed primarily to support the networking of AMS members and the community-building work of AMS chapters and study groups, the AMS Community Site allows members to: 1) maintain a profile accessible only to other current AMS members; 2) communicate with fellow member or with all the current members of an AMS chapter, group or committee; 3) share documents, photographs, and other materials with the AMS community or fellow chapter, study group, or committee members; 4) browse and search the AMS member directory; and 5) control the public display of their own information.

Access to the AMS Community Site is contingent on membership status. All AMS members in good standing may access the space, provided they log into it using the email address that is associated with their AMS member account. Failure to use the same email address will result in difficulties logging in as the Community Site database is synced directly with the AMS member database.

If you have a current AMS membership and experience difficulty logging into the Community Site, please contact the AMS Office at ams@amsmusicology.org and report your problem. A member of the AMS staff will be happy to assist you, and reporting your issue will help us improve the user experience for all. For information about data security and handling, consult the site’s Privacy Policy.

Features

Member Directory
The Member Directory is an interactive and searchable list of current AMS members. Accessible only to individuals with current AMS memberships and organizations with current memberships in the Coalition of Music Organizations, the Member Directory is a community resource designed to promote networking and community building. As a privacy protection measure, the member directory does not feature email addresses. However, members may communicate with each other using direct messages through the site.

Groups
The AMS Community Site features scores of group pages which provide a online communication and networking hub for AMS study groups, chapters, committees, and other groups. Groups provide access to shared document repositories, discussion forums, and messaging features. All study groups and chapters are automatically provided with a group. Committees and other groups of AMS members may request a group to support their work, provided they are able to designate one or more individuals as group moderators. Group leaders are expected to moderate their group’s discussion forums and ensure conformity with community norms of respect and collegial conversation.

Library
The Library on the AMS Community Site is a hub for accessing books, articles, organizational documents, and other materials that are of interest to AMS members and freely accessible to them. These include: Broude Trust titles, links to AMS journals and digital publications, the AMS By-Laws and Administrative Handbook, and much more.

Profile
Every AMS member has a Profile page. This page provides information about that member and acts as a public profile and activity hub on the Community Site. Profiles may be edited to protect privacy, share CVs, post photos and other documents, and display current groups and forums.

Account
The Account page is where you can control your login, notification, privacy, and other settings. Privacy settings may be set field by field, allowing you to share or hide any information you wish.
